Insight from Melissa Maldonado, Senior Implementation Manager at Progyny
We don’t have to tell you that navigating fertility treatments can be exhausting and confusing. There are lots of details to consider, which is why it’s common for people to seek help.
While juggling your well-being and also navigating insurance coverage, treatment plans, and facing insensitive questions like, “When are you going to have kids?”… where do you even start?
Infertility impacts every aspect of your life. With so much at stake, you need an advocate. That’s where Progyny’s Patient Care Advocates (PCAs) come in.
At Progyny, our Patient Care Advocates are committed to helping members navigate their fertility and family building journey, so you can focus on your treatment to make informed healthcare decisions.
PCAs are fertility experts with a wide range of experience in therapy, nursing, andrology, and more. Since infertility can be overwhelming, our PCAs are ready to support you by providing clinical and emotional support at every step of the journey.
We want you to feel empowered to make the best decision to reach your family-building goals. Here’s how your PCA can help you navigate your fertility journey:
You Have Questions – Ask Away!
You’ll learn a lot during your fertility treatments. Your PCA will walk you through your Progyny benefit, treatment options, and answer any questions you have so that you can plan accordingly. Don’t be afraid to ask questions – it may even be helpful to write them down before your call. Here are a couple common questions:
Is my treatment covered?
During your consultation, your PCA can walk you through the right treatment for you so you can make informed decisions and your best path to parenthood.
My head is spinning with fertility acronyms and my doctor recommended ICSI or PGT-A. Are these covered under my plan?
Both ICSI and PGT-A are covered because we want to make sure you have coverage for the latest technology. Speak to your fertility specialist on what’s the best treatment plan for you.
The Ins and Outs of Fertility Coverage
Often, insurance, billing, and what’s covered under your benefit can be daunting. Not only are PCAs fertility experts, but they will help you understand the ins and outs of your coverage. Now, you have someone that can help you understand your benefit in laymen’s terms.
Communication is Key
Your PCA is your direct resource for all things fertility, so we want to make it easy to reach them. Would you rather your PCA check in on you periodically or would you rather update them as you see fit?
Your PCA will speak to you about your communication style during your first call. Whether it be through phone calls, email, or through your Member Portal, we’re happy to meet you where you are.
An Easy Process
Your time and energy are valuable. Throughout your journey, you’ll have only one dedicated PCA to speak with. No need to re-explain your journey to different nurses. That means, with your PCA’s help, you’ll have more time to focus on reaching your family- building dreams. Not to mention you have unlimited time to speak with your PCA too.
Choosing a Fertility Specialist
Your relationship with your doctor is important. If you have a clinic in mind, be sure to ask your PCA if it’s within the Progyny provider network.
Not sure which clinic to choose? No worries – your dedicated PCA can help you choose a clinic based on your preferences. What’s important when it comes to clinics – location to work or home? A specific area of focus?
No matter your needs, we’ll help guide you in the right direction so you can find the fertility clinic that’s right for you. Here are some questions to ask your PCA about clinics:
- Is my clinic of choice in the Progyny network?
- What tests will I need to have before treatment?
- How many times will I need to visit the clinic?
- Does the clinic have a specialty in certain treatments?
- How often will I be billed?
- What are the clinic’s hours?
- Will I see the same doctor throughout treatment?
Appointment Prep
It’s common to feel anxious before or after an appointment. Your PCA is happy to speak with you about any concerns to help alleviate some of that stress. We have advice and resources to share so you can get the most from your appointments too.
