A Patient Care Advocate
Patient Care Advocates (PCAs) are an integral part of a member’s fertility journey with Progyny, and we would like you to get to know them better. This week, we’re happy to introduce Joni Vick, a Patient Care Advocate.
Name: Joni Vick
What’s your background in healthcare/fertility?
I have quite an extensive background in fertility! I have been a RN for over 16 years. My nursing experience is specialized in women’s health, as a labor and delivery nurse and fertility RN. As a fertility nurse I managed a third party reproduction program and quickly found fertility was my true passion.
What do you enjoy the most about being a patient care advocate?
I love sharing the details of the benefit with members for the first time and hearing their reactions, which tend to be so grateful and appreciative! So many people have wanted this for so long and haven’t been able to achieve their dreams before Progyny, so it’s amazing to be the one delivering that news.
What’s your favorite/best moment so far at Progyny?
Two moments really stand out in my mind. First, I had a member in complete shock after I explained the benefit. She was in denial, questioning what I had said! She needed a moment to pause and once it registered that she would have coverage, she was super emotional and hopeful.
The other was seeing a member through her whole journey and when she found out she was pregnant, she only told two people – her husband and me!
What does family mean to you?
Family is everything to me. I’m a Texan – we are all about the bigger the better! It drives me, it’s what makes me work so hard – family is everything and the only thing.
Give one word to describe the impact you’ve made on a member’s life:
Listener. Sometimes, a member just wants to vent and be heard. The issues may not be solved at that moment, but just having someone listen and show compassion can make a huge difference.
What’s a fun fact about you?
I was a college athlete – I played softball!
What’s the last TV series or movie you binge-watched?
Fixer Upper on HGTV.
Do you have any personal goals for this year?
Continue to mentor my daughters in helping them find their own passions and achieve success!
